Visit to Sekolah Dasar Muhammadiyah Pakem

On November 22, 2024, as part of the ongoing series of best practice sharing activities between SEAQiM and IPGM Darulaman, a delegation from IPGM Darulaman visited Sekolah Dasar Muhammadiyah Pakem, a primary school located in Pakem. Organized by SEAQiM, the visit provided the delegation an opportunity to observe firsthand the implementation of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) learning in action and exchange insights on integrating STEM into diverse educational contexts.

The delegation was warmly welcomed by Rr. Afiati Fatimah, M.Pd., the Principal of Sekolah Dasar Muhammadiyah Pakem, who shared the school’s vision and achievements in STEM-based learning. Bu Rachma, one of the school’s teachers, guided the delegation through the vibrant classrooms, where students actively demonstrated their STEM projects.

From IPGM Darulaman, Dr. Hjh Sumaiyah bt Abd Rahman, Head of STEM Department, and Hj Dzulfazli bin Othman, IPGM Program Coordinator, led the delegation. They expressed admiration for the school’s innovative teaching methods and engaged in insightful discussions with teachers and students.

Representing SEAQiM, Dr. Sri Wulandari Danoebroto, Deputy Director for Program, and Ms. Ummy Salmah, SEAQiM Specialist and school coordinator, facilitated the visit and shared SEAQiM’s commitment to fostering collaboration in STEM education across the region.

The visit highlighted how STEM education at Sekolah Dasar Muhammadiyah Pakem combines hands-on projects and student-centered learning to foster creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. The delegation appreciated the collaborative spirit between students and teachers, which plays a vital role in making STEM education engaging and effective.

Interactive discussions during the visit emphasized the importance of collaboration in addressing challenges such as resource limitations and ensuring equitable access to STEM education. This exchange of best practices further strengthened the ties between SEAQiM, IPGM Darulaman, and local educational institutions, contributing to the advancement of education across Southeast Asia.
