Yogyakarta – Wednesday, 14 July 2021, as a series of its 12th Anniversary, SEAQiM successfully gathered the regular course alumni into the 1st SEAQiM Alumni Gathering. A total of 160 alumni across the years expressed their longing to the fellow alumni and SEAQiM’s colleagues through Zoom meetings virtually.
This event was initiated to gather constructive suggestions and criticism from alumni and empower them as a strategic step to build a network to improve the quality and tangible impact of the SEAQiM’s programs. Besides, the speakers delivered updates about mathematics education, current issues of education in Southeast Asia, particularly about PISA and Mathematics Literacy, and their valuable teaching and learning motivation. They are Dr. Wahyudi from SEAMEO Secretariat, Thailand, Prof. Dr. Le Cong Trinh from Quy Nhon University, Vietnam, and Prof. Allan Leslie White from University of Western Sydney, Australia.
This forum provides the alumni to meet and discuss each other in the agenda alumni sharing session. SEAQiM also present alumni best practice that have been presented by Ms. Fita Sukiyani from SD Negeri Jorok, Sumbawa, West Nusa Tenggara. She shared about how to empower mathematics with STEM-based learning. The event combined the interesting talk from invited speakers and fruitful sharing sessions and successfully resulted in a lively discussion among alumni.
The last agenda of the event is an announcement of alumni of the year. Dr. Farida Nurhasanah, Deputy Director for Programme of SEAQiM, proudly announced the winners based on their outstanding dedication and contribution as SEAQiM alumni in improving mathematics education. They are Mr. Arie Wibowo from UPTD SMPN 5 Batu Ampar, Indonesia, Mr. Kenneth Regene B. Blasco from Tubigon West National High School, Philippines, and Mr. Rozaili bin Mohd Ali from Teacher Training Institute Campus Perempuan Melayu. The main additional agenda also ended the event was the launch of the SEAQiM Alumni Network by Dr. Sumardyono, Director of SEAQiM, with 1 head of alumni network (Ms. Laksmi Indrawati; SMP N 1 Sleman, Indonesia) and 6 persons as alumni network coordinators in Southeast Asia (Mr. Afrial; SMK Unggul Negeri 2 Banyuasin, Mr. Arifin; SMPN 1 Karangploso, Mr. Marwan; SMK Negeri Kehutanan Makassar, Mr. Charles Andrew Parera; SMAN 1 Ambon, Mr. Marvelino M. Niem; Tanauan School of Fisheries Philippines, and Mr. Rozaili bin Mohd Ali; Teacher Training Institute Campus Perempuan Melayu).
