Yogyakarta, Indonesia – From April 21 to 23, 2025, SEAQiM successfully conducted “Workshop Pengembangan Pojok Numerasi” at its Conference Room in Yogyakarta. The workshop is a significant part of the broader Program Pojok Numerasi initiated by SEAQiM, designed to enhance numeracy competence by providing facilities and activities that stimulate students’ mathematical thinking and real-life application.
The workshop was attended by 20 teachers from 10 pilot elementary schools across Yogyakarta selected as part of SEAQiM’s Pojok Numerasi initiative. The event started with introductory sessions on effective numeracy strategies and their integration, underlining the importance of numeracy as part of the national educational agenda. Participants, guided by two experienced facilitators, Dr. Sumardyono (SEAQiM’s Director) and Meita Fitrianawati, M.Pd. from Universitas Ahmad Dahlan, explored how everyday contexts can be transformed into powerful numeracy learning moments.
A key feature of the workshop was the collaborative development of a model numeracy learning book. The book is a practical tool for integrating numeracy into daily lessons and classroom activities. Teachers shared insights, contextual challenges, and classroom experiences in small groups. They brainstormed and refined practical lesson designs, activities, and strategies suited to their students’ needs, guided by Dr. Sri Wulandari Danoebroto (Deputy Director for Programme, SEAQiM) and the SEAQiM academic team.
Additionally, the workshop introduced participants to the Ethnomath Workbook, a resource that connects mathematical concepts to local culture and context through ethnomathematics. This approach reinforces students’ conceptual understanding and nurtures a culturally relevant learning experience.
By the workshop’s conclusion, participating educators had finalised their numeracy learning models and expressed greater confidence in applying innovative and contextual approaches to teaching mathematics. This effort represents a crucial step in SEAQiM’s ongoing commitment to improving mathematics education across Southeast Asia.
