SEAQiM Strengthens Ties with Yogyakarta State University through MoU Signing

Yogyakarta – April 16, 2025 – In a significant step toward enhancing academic collaboration and institutional synergy, the Board of Directors of SEAMEO QITEP in Mathematics (SEAQiM), accompanied by the Head of the Partnership Division, conducted an official visit to the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) at Yogyakarta State University (UNY). The highlight of the visit was the formal signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signifying a renewed commitment to long-term cooperation between the two institutions.

The SEAQiM delegation was warmly welcomed by the Dean of FMIPA UNY, Prof. Dr. Dadan Rosana, who was joined by prominent faculty members including Dr. Ali Mahmudi, M.Pd, Prof. Dr. Tien Aminatun, M.Si, Isti Yunita, Ph.D, Dr. Nikenasih Binatari,M.Si and other academic leaders. During his welcoming remarks, Prof. Dadan emphasized the strategic value of the partnership, stating that this collaboration has the potential to significantly contribute to professional development, research excellence, and innovation in mathematics education. He also encouraged both parties to explore a wide range of initiatives, including joint training programs, academic exchanges, collaborative research projects, and co-hosted seminars or conferences to enrich faculty and student experiences.

The visit also included a focused discussion session, where both parties explored actionable plans for future cooperation, particularly in supporting regional capacity building and enhancing the quality of Mathematics education. SEAQiM and FMIPA UNY expressed shared aspirations to expand their collaborative reach by designing programs that address contemporary educational challenges and empower mathematics educators across Southeast Asia.

SEAQiM and FMIPA UNY have maintained a strong partnership over the years, marked by various joint endeavours. Most recently, the two institutions co-organized a Pi Day webinar on March 13, 2025, successfully engaging mathematics educators and students in celebrating mathematical curiosity and innovation.

The signing of this new MoU stands as a testament to the sustained mutual trust and shared vision between SEAQiM and UNY. It is expected to serve as a springboard for even more dynamic and impactful collaborations, ultimately contributing to regional educational advancement and the development of future-ready mathematics educators.
