SEAQiM and STKIPM Kuningan Collaborated in STEM

Thursday, 24 November 2022, SEAQiM is honoured to welcome nine personnel from STKIP Muhammadiyah Kuningan, purposed to carry out collaboration activities in STEM Research Implementation. The one-day agenda is divided into two parts: the Workshop on the Implementation of STEM Research in Mathematics Education has been held in the Conference Room, SEAQiM, and the other is Community Service in Kampung STEM, Joho-Yogyakarta. The activities are initiatives to improve the lecturers’ capacity and competence, and support Program Kompetisi Kampus Merdeka (PKKM), launched by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of Indonesia.

Eight (8) lecturers and one (1) vice chairman of STKIPM Kuningan gathered in Conference Room to conduct the Workshop facilitated by Dr. Sumardyono, SEAQiM Director, and Dr. Farida Nurhasanah, SEAQiM Deputy Director for Programme. Dr. Sumardyono shared about Why STEM for Mathematics Teaching and Learning, and also described some of STEM activities that have been carried out by SEAQiM, such as training, STEM Camp, STEM Village, and STEM Module. The session ended with such lively discussion and QnA. The next workshop session is Promoting STEAM for Pre-Service Mathematics Teachers, led by Dr. Farida Nurhasanah. The session successfully attracted the participants’ attention with a practical concept of STEM in Mathematics Learning using the award-winning puzzle game Mondrian Blocks. Besides, Dr. Farida introduces and lets the participants explore the NearPod mathematics application. In the application, participants are insights into student understanding through interactive lessons, videos, gamification, and other activities.

The following agenda is a visitation to Kampung STEM, Joho-Yogyakarta to implement community service and practice STEM activities with the managing female groups of Kampung STEM. The participants try to make cloth-ecoprints using the ponding technique. They learn about the pattern designs of the leaves used, the process of hammering using the tools, also a colouring technique that can be packaged into Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) activities.

Mr. Hermawan, M.Si, the Vice Chairman of STKIPM Kuningan and Mr. Evan Farhan Wahyu Puadi, M.Pd, the Head of Mathematics Education Study Program, in the remark, expressed their gratitude to SEAQiM for the warm welcome and well-facilitated the visitation. “We came with nothing, but we hope we go home with much-valuable knowledge from SEAQiM”, said Mr. Hermawan, M.Si. Moreover, the director of SEAQiM also fosters and offers more collaboration for STKIPM Kuningan, and the other universities to support Kampus Merdeka and contribute to the mathematics education development in Southeast Asia.
