Thirty “Candles’ to Light up Sumba Timur

Waingapu – A series of activities in the In-country Training on Joyful Learning in Mathematics Education for Primary School Teachers has been successfully conducted from 1 to 5 August 2016. During the successive 5 days, the training participants have got the material such as Philosophical and Theoretical Background of Learning Joyful, Problem Solving in Mathematics, Mathematics and Arts, Project Based Learning, Virtual manipulative, Math Games and Practical Mathematics in Daily Life from the facilitators namely Mr. Fadjar Sadiq, Ms. Uki Rahmawati, and Mr. Wahid Yunianto.

   

At the closing ceremony, Mr. Simon Tanto, the Head of Yayasan Kasih Agape, thanked the IOA and SEAQiM and also appreciated the spirit of teachers in participating in the training. Ms. Tanti Sugiharti Singgih as the Executive Director of the IOA quoted the lyrics of SEAMEO Winning Song that “by working hand in hand we can accomplish all our dreams”. She further explained that cooperation of all parties was very needed to improve the quality of education in Sumba Timur. Mr. Fadjar Shadiq also conveyed that one of the most important teacher’s task was to make math no longer frightening for students, but becoming a fun and meaningful lesson.

Mr. Gerson, the representative of Masyarakat Pendidikan Sejati (MPS), before closing the training officially said “Thirty small candle finally light up East Sumba. But, this 30 candles cannot illuminate the entire Sumba Timur”. Conclusively, he believed that the knowledge acquired by the 30 participants during the training should be implemented and also disseminated to other teachers
