Teacher Development Synergy: SEAQiM’s Audience with Sumbawa Education Office and Gugus 1 Learning Community to Enhance Education Quality

On October 21, 2024, a pivotal event titled “Quality Improvement Synergy” took place at the SD N 1 Sumbawa Hall, bringing together key stakeholders to discuss initiatives to enhance the quality of education, particularly in numeracy. This event was attended by notable figures such as Mr. Sudari, S.Spt., M.Si., Secretary of the Sumbawa Regency Education Office; Ms. Nurhayati, S.Pd., Principal of SD N 1 Sumbawa; and representatives from the Gugus 1 Learning Community of Sumbawa District.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Sudari underscored the urgent need to improve the quality of education in Sumbawa, with a particular focus on numeracy, as highlighted by the Rapor Pendidikan, which indicated low performance in this area. He expressed his gratitude to the SEAQiM team for their presence and voiced hope for follow-up programs akin to the ones pioneered by Ms. Fita Sukiyani, a local teacher and SEAQiM alumni. Mr. Sudari emphasized the importance of expanding similar opportunities to further develop the region’s educational landscape, particularly in Sumbawa Regency, one of the largest regions in West Nusa Tenggara, which faces unique challenges such as poor access to reliable communication signals in 3T (disadvantaged, frontier, and outermost) areas.

The SEAQiM team, represented by Ms. Caecilia Cahyakristilestari and Ms. Ummy Salmah, delivered a comprehensive presentation outlining SEAQiM’s current programs and introducing new initiatives like the Pojok Numerasi (Numeracy Corner). This presentation highlighted future opportunities for numeracy-focused programs, including the option for Gugus 1 to submit proposals for collaboration on the Pojok Numerasi initiative. During the discussion session, Ms. Karyati, a principal from one of the members from Gugus, inquired about the potential of implementing the Pojok Numerasi program in her school.

This event solidified the shared commitment of the Sumbawa learning community to establish and sustain a robust numeracy program. By leveraging the collective potential of Gugus 1 Sumbawa District, which comprises ten schools, the community aims to promote lasting improvements in educational outcomes in the region.
