SEAQiM’s Workshop on Academic Writing Sets a New Benchmark for Educators and Researchers Across Southeast Asia

Yogyakarta, November 1–6, 2024 – The SEAMEO Regional Centre for Quality Improvement of Teachers and Education Personnel in Mathematics (SEAQiM) once again raises the bar in advancing educational research through its ”Workshop on Academic Writing for the 8th ISMEI Proceedings”. Held in SEAQiM’s Conference Room in Yogyakarta in hybrid mode, onsite and with a virtual component via Zoom, this six-day workshop is a robust initiative aimed at transforming promising academic presentations into publishable research papers. The goal is to ensure high-quality proceedings for the 8th International Symposium on Mathematics Education and Innovation (ISMEI).

SEAQiM’s ongoing dedication to elevating mathematics education in Southeast Asia takes centre stage in this workshop. By enhancing participants’ academic writing skills, SEAQiM supports educators and researchers in surmounting the challenges they often face, such as paper structuring, adherence to publication standards, and responding to reviewer feedback. Through an intensive program of targeted instruction and practical guidance, SEAQiM provides a framework for developing clear, concise, and impactful manuscripts that meet the rigorous standards of Atlantis Press.

The workshop boasts the expertise of renowned facilitators such as Assoc. Prof. Kanageswari Suppiah Shanmugam, Ph.D. from Universiti Utara Malaysia, Dr. Naufal Ishartono from Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta, and Dr. Nur Choiro Siregar from Universitas Muhammadiyah Tangerang. Each brings unique insights into academic publishing, empowering participants to shape their drafts into high-calibre manuscripts. Covering topics ranging from structuring research papers to ethical publishing practices, these experts are dedicated to supporting the academic aspirations of Southeast Asia’s leading minds.

Workshop sessions unfold in a structured format over six days, beginning with a deep dive into the key aspects of academic writing. Subsequent sessions guide participants through the peer-review process, the intricacies of aligning manuscripts with proceeding templates, and methods for effectively addressing reviewers’ comments. Participants benefit from an array of interactive presentations, one-on-one reviews, and meticulous manuscript revisions under the guidance of SEAQiM’s academic team.

With around 30 paper presenters participating, the workshop fosters a collaborative environment where participants commit to their writing skills and prepare their manuscripts. As the workshop concludes, SEAQiM reaffirms its commitment to supporting Southeast Asian educators.
