SEAQiM Conducts Monitoring and Evaluation at SMP 3 Banjar and SDN 2 Penarungan

On November 7, 2024, the SEAMEO Regional Centre for QITEP in Mathematics (SEAQiM) conducted an in-depth monitoring and evaluation session at two educational institutions in Bali: SMP 3 Banjar and SDN 2 Penarungan. This initiative was designed to assess and support the progress of mathematics and STEM education at these schools, focusing on pedagogical effectiveness, the integration of technology, and student engagement.

At SMP 3 Banjar, the session was opened by the Acting Principal, I Gede Winaya, S.Pd., M.Pd., who welcomed the SEAQiM team warmly and expressed appreciation for SEAQiM’s interest in the school. Mr Winaya highlighted significant transformations in student behaviour and the growing role of technology in learning, crediting notable teachers like Mr Made Ari Purwadi, an alumnus of SEAQiM’s programs, for their contributions to modernizing the school’s approach.

At SDN 2 Penarungan, Head Teacher Ni Putu Ida Astri Dewi, S.Pd., shared insights into the challenges faced during a temporary relocation to SDN 4 Penarungan due to ongoing renovations. She thanked SEAQiM for their support, especially acknowledging Mr. I Putu Gede Sutharyana Tubuh Wibawa, another SEAQiM alumnus whose STEM training has enriched the faculty’s teaching approaches.

The SEAQiM team conducted comprehensive activities to evaluate and support the schools’ educational development. This included observing classroom dynamics, where they analyzed both teaching methods and the effectiveness of student engagement. Teachers were interviewed to discuss current educational challenges, particularly curriculum delivery and strategies for incorporating STEM elements into everyday learning. The team also spoke directly with students to gain their perspective on the learning environment and gauge their experience with technology integration in the classroom. Despite the absence of the Principal at SDN 2 Penarungan, SEAQiM gathered valuable insights from the teaching staff and students, offering an in-depth view of each school’s progress and areas for further development.

This monitoring visit highlighted SEAQiM’s ongoing dedication to supporting educational growth at the grassroots level. The feedback and findings from this session will inform future improvements in mathematics education throughout Southeast Asia.
