The 2023 SEAMEO CPRN Summit theme is “Embracing Inclusivity in Education, Science and Culture towards a Future-Ready Southeast Asia”. This event called for all academicians, researchers and research scholars from the SEAMEO Regional Centres and Network to exchange and share their policy research initiatives and results. This summit was also held in conjunction with the SEAMEO Science Olympiad (SEASO). The event has conducted at SEAMEO RECSAM, Penang, Malaysia, on 6-9 March 2023.
Dr Sumardyono, Director of SEAQiM, and Ms Uki Rahmawati, Head Division of Research, Development, Capacity Building, and Training of SEAQiM had an opportunity to attend live at the venue. The first day’s agenda started with the opening ceremony. During the opening ceremony, H E Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Md Salleh, SEAMEO Council Vice President, Minister of Education Brunei Darussalam gave the opening message, continued with the welcoming speech from Centre Director of RECSAM and welcoming speech from Director of SEAMEO Secretariat. After that, the representative of HE Fadhlina Sidek, Minister of Education Malaysia, opened the launching of SEAMEO CPRN Summit 2023 & SEASO 2023.
The main agenda started with the keynote message from an Associate Professor National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University, after that, followed by the presentation of policy research from each SEAMEO Centre. Dr Sumardyono, director of SEAQiM and Ms Uki Rahmawati, on day 2 of the summit, presented an on-going project titled Developing the SEAQIM’s Instrument for Mathematics Teachers’ Proficiency in Southeast Asia Countries (Phase I – 2022/2023).
In total, there were 24 research papers presented by the SEAMEO Centres. Forty-five (45) delegates from SEAMEO Centres then had a fruitful discussion during the breakout sessions to design future policy research and collaborations in the cluster of education, science, and culture.
To sum up, this summit was one of the opportunities for all SEAMEO Centres to share and update trends on policy research, share ideas and on-going activities with other regional centres & networks. Moreover, support to chart our journey forward to reach new heights, in line with the SEAMEO Strategic Plan 2021-2030.
