Groundbreaking Collaboration Between SEAQiM and OKU Education Office: RME Numeracy Training and Agreement Signing, Commitment in Advancing Mathematics Education

Yogyakarta, January 15, 2025 – The SEAMEO Regional Centre for QITEP in Mathematics (SEAQiM) and the Education Office of Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) forged a new chapter in educational excellence with the RME Numeracy Training and the signing of a Cooperation Agreement (PKS). The event titled “Pelatihan RME Numerasi Dinas Pendidikan Kabupaten OKU 2025”, attended by thirty-three (33) primary school teachers from OKU, held at the SEAQiM Conference Room in Yogyakarta. It marked a significant step in their shared commitment to advancing mathematics education.

The SEAQiM Board of Directors and team attended the event. Representing the OKU Education Office, Drs. H. Topan Indra Fauzi, MM., M.Pd., Head of the OKU Regency Education Office, was accompanied by Robiyanto, S.E., M.M. (Head of Elementary School Development Division), Hendri Wijaya, S.Ag., M.Si. (Head of Elementary School Curriculum and Assessment Section), and three other personnel from the OKU Regency Education Office.

The event started with a heartfelt address by Drs. H. Topan Indra Fauzi, MM., M.Pd, Head of the OKU Education Office. He expressed his expectation for the training to transform the perception of mathematics from a difficult subject into an engaging and accessible one for students. “We hope this collaboration will encourage our educators’ skills and inspire our students to achieve academic excellence,” he remarked. He further invited SEAQiM to introduce its flagship programs to OKU, emphasizing the importance of sustained cooperation in building teacher capacity and student achievements.

In his opening remark, Dr. Sumardyono, Director of SEAQiM, warmly welcomed the OKU education office delegation and participants to Yogyakarta, reaffirming SEAQiM’s dedication to fulfilling its MoU with the OKU Education Office. “By focusing on RME and numeracy, we aim to provide practical solutions that align with learners’ everyday experiences. This training underscores SEAQiM’s commitment to empowering educators with innovative teaching strategies, in line with the objectives outlined in our agreement,” he stated.

The event’s highlight was signing the Cooperation Agreement (PKS), symbolizing the official strategic partnership between SEAQiM and the OKU Education Office. This collaboration aims to sustain innovative initiatives in mathematics education and drive impactful changes in teaching and learning practices.

Meanwhile, the training program featured sessions on Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) and numeracy, focusing on equipping participants with Numeracy Concepts, attractively presented by Ms Miftahul Hidayah, Principles of Realistic Mathematics Education, meaningfully brought by Wisnuningtyas Wirani (SEAQiM’s training specialist), and Problem-Solving, joyfully addressed by Dr. Sumardyono. Participants engaged actively and displayed great enthusiasm throughout the sessions.

The event concluded on a high note, with both SEAQiM and the OKU Education Office expressing optimism for the future of education. Plans for extending the partnership and introducing innovative programs were discussed, highlighting a shared vision for sustained collaboration.
