Exploring Cooperation, Tanah Datar Education Office Visits SEAQiM: Eyeing the STEM Village Program to Boost the Economy

YOGYAKARTA, July 2, 2026. In an effort to improve the quality of education while simultaneously driving the community’s economy, the Head of the Tanah Datar Regency Education Office, Dr. Alfi Hidayati, M.Pd., paid an official visit to the SEAMEO Regional Centre for QITEP in Mathematics (SEAQiM) in Yogyakarta on Thursday (2/7/2026).

Accompanied by the Cooperation Expert Team, this visit aimed to explore strategic cooperation in enhancing teacher competence and innovating mathematics learning.

The delegation from Tanah Datar Regency was welcomed directly by the Director of SEAQiM, Dr. Sri Wulandari Danoebroto, who was accompanied by the Deputy Director of Administration, Dr. Samsul Hadi, and the Deputy Director of Program, Jatnika H, Ph.D.

During the meeting, Dr. Sri Wulandari Danoebroto presented various flagship cooperation programs that SEAQiM has successfully implemented with various domestic and international partners. Some of these programs include:

  • Teacher Training: Enhancing the pedagogical and professional competencies of mathematics teachers.
  • STEM Village (Kampung STEM): Community-based integration of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
  • Seminars & Publications: Scientific platforms through international seminars and the publication of learning journals.
  • Learning Research: In-depth research to find effective mathematics learning methods.

Of the various programs presented, the Head of the Tanah Datar Education Office, Dr. Alfi Hidayati, M.Pd., expressed a strong interest in the STEM Village program. According to her, this program has extraordinary multi-effect potential if implemented in Tanah Datar.

“We are highly interested in the STEM Village concept. Aside from encouraging the community and students to be literate in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, this program has a strong socio-economic dimension that we believe can drive and revitalize the local community’s economy,” said Dr. Alfi.

This exploratory visit is envisioned as the inception of an impactful, long-term collaboration, ensuring that the implementation of the STEM Village program delivers sustainable benefits to the people of Tanah Datar Regency. (Red)
