Yogyakarta – The second virtual regular course on Integrating ICT in Mathematics Education for Junior High School Mathematics Teachers was held successfully. A total of 39 teachers from Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam actively participated during the three weeks course on 28 August to 17 September 2020.
The number of participants in this course was the biggest on record since the establishment of SEAQiM 11 years ago. The participants had a chance to learn from some reputable experts across the world; GeoGebra with Professor Zsolt Lavicza from Johannes Kepler University Austria, Calculator for Mathematics Exploration with Professor Barry Kissane from Murdoch University, Australia and STEM with Professor Kristof Fenyvesi Finnish Institute for Educational Research, University of Jyvaskykla, Finland. In addition, SEAQiM invited some notable facilitators from Indonesia such as Prof. Yaya S Kusumah from Indonesian Education University (UPI), Dr. Gogot Suharwoto from the Ministry of Education and Culture (MoEC) of Indonesia, Prof. Iwan Pranoto from Bandung Institute Technology (ITB).
The course utilized ZOOM for daily virtual activities and ZOHO to monitor the presence of participants. One of the main activities of the course, namely real teaching, was conducted virtually involving 7 and 8 graders of SMP IT Ar-Raihan, Bandar Lampung, Indonesia. The new conduct of the real teaching was appealing to both the participants and the students.
Dr. Sumardyono, SEAQiM Director, at the closing ceremony expressed his heartfelt thanks for the active participation of all participants and their commitment to join in the online course. Furthermore, he congratulated the 3 best participants based on the academic evaluation, namely Ms. Ni Putu Ayu Novia Dewi from SMPN 2 North Kuta (Indonesia), Ms. Istifaiyah from SMPN 1 Mlonggo (Indonesia), and Mr. Janudin bin Haji Junggal from Sekolah Menengah Awang Semaun (Brunei Darussalam). In turn, Dr. Susetyo Widiasmoro, the DDA of SEAQiM announced the 3 most favourite participants as follows: Mr. Arifin SMPN 1 Karangploso (Indonesia), Ms. Grace Robledo from Lodlod Integrated National High School (Philippines), and Ms. Erni Ayda from SMPN 2 Tuntang (Indonesia).
