Sumba Timur – Thirty elementary school teachers from Kabupaten Sumba Timur, Nusa Tenggara Timur, took part in In-country Course on Joyful Learning for Primary School Teachers. The event was conducted from 30 September to 4 October 2019 at SD Masehi Payeti 3, Waingapu, Sumba Timur.
In-country Course on Joyful Learning for Primary School Teachers was a collaboration programme between IOA (Indonesian Overseas Alumni) and SEAQiM. Four years earlier, both institution have established a Memorandum of Agreement about the quality improvement of mathematics teachers in Indonesia, particularly in Kabupaten Sumba Timur, through a sharing budget programme.
In the opening ceremony of the course, Mr. Dominggus Guest Anna from the Education Office of Sumba Timur expressed his special thanks to IOA and SEAQiM for organizing the event. He strongly realizes that teachers in his district need regular capacity building activities to gain more knowledge in teaching mathematics.
In those five days, the participants learnt about creating joyful mathematics learning with excitement. They were taught by the course facilitators that, instead of teaching math in class, teachers could also encourage their students to explore their surroundings. In addition, the participants were introduced to STEM for mathematics learning.
