The Multistage Adaptive Testing (MSAT ) assessment approach used in the 2020 Minimum Competency Assessment was also used in PISA 2018 and several other international assessments. It is interesting to know more about the method of evaluation used in the Minimum Competency Assessment (Asesmen Kompetensi Minimum – AKM), namely Multistage Adaptive Testing (MSAT). In many selections the MSAT is gaining popularity. Apart from the 2020 AKM, it turns out that the MSAT is also used in the 2018 Programme for International Students Assessment (PISA).
The MSAT itself is an assessment approach that is used on a large scale for different levels of ability using a computer assisted test (CAT). Lately, MSAT has been increasing in popularity. The CAT itself is not a new thing in the selection or evaluation process, but the MSAT is a new alternative which is increasingly being used. Some research says, for example, in 2004 the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam switched from paper-and-pencil mode to MSAT in 2004. Graduate Record Examinations (GRE), the standard test for entering graduate programs in the United States, was changed to the MSAT with a computerized adaptive testing mode in 2011 after previously using a linear testing mode using paper.
