Semarang, September 21 2021 — SEAMEO Regional Center for QITEP in Mathematics (SEAQiM)hold the 12th Governing Board Meeting (GBM) on 21-23 September 2021 at the Wujil Hotel, Semarang. This event was attended online and offline by representatives from 11 SEAMEO member countries who are also members of the advisory board or Governing Board Member of SEAQiM and several delegates from various other stakeholders.
“Make it momentum and opportunity for us to support the learning process in schools as an alternative to learning during the pandemic. Great hopes are conveyed to SEAQiM always to prioritize literacy and numeracy education for teachers and create a fun learning for mathematics subjects,” said Secretary-General (Sesjen), Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemendikbudristek RI), Suharti in opening remarks on Tuesday (21/9). Suharti also thanked the GB members who had fully supported SEAQiM in organizing this year’s GBM. According to him, the pandemic is the biggest challenge in the world of education. Therefore it is time to minimize the technological gap.
GBM is a recurring event held every year to be accountable for the work program for the fiscal year that has been implemented and to get directions and suggestions from GBM members for the work program for the upcoming fiscal year. “Especially during a pandemic like this, very high expectations are expected from SEAQiM for all GBM members and other delegates to contribute to the running of the education sector, especially in the field of mathematics, which is more innovative,” said the Director of SEAQiM, Sumardyono.
Director Sumardyono also thanked the GBM members who were willing to attend and provide support to go well. “Especially to the Deputy Director of the SEAMEO Secretariat Program, Dr Wahyudi, who had the opportunity to attend offline and gave a lot of directions and inputs for the progress of SEAQiM,” he said. SEAQiM is an institution under the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization/SEAMEO, namely the organization of education ministers throughout Southeast Asia, established on July 13, 2009. SEAQiM’s mission is to provide relevant and quality programs to support the professional excellence of mathematic teachers and education personnel in Southeast Asia.
“As an educational organization, especially in the field of mathematics, with the existence of the 12th GBM, of course, SEAQiM hopes that it will become a forum for teachers in Southeast Asia always to provide the best service for the advancement of education, and always prioritize innovation, professionalism, service quality, think globally and always inspire all teachers and education personnel in Southeast Asia in general and Indonesia in particular,” concluded Director Sumardyono.
