SEAMEO QITEP in Mathematics (SEAQiM), in collaboration with MGMP Matematika SMP (Junior High School Mathematics Teachers’ Working Group) Tanah Laut Regency and with the support of the Tanah Laut Education and Culture Office, successfully held the In-Country Course on Integrating ICT in Mathematics Education for Junior High School Mathematics Teachers on 23–26 September 2025 at Tanah Laut Education and Culture Office.
This sharing-cost-based program was initiated following a proposal submitted to SEAQiM and marks the third in-country course held this year, after similar programs in Sumbawa and Ambon.
The opening ceremony was attended by key education stakeholders, including Slamet Mulyadi, S.Pd. (Chair of MGMP Matematika SMP), Arie Irawan, S.Kom. (Head of Curriculum, Student Affairs, and Staffing for SMP), and Ibu Rodiyah (SMP Supervisor). In his remarks, Slamet expressed his gratitude that the proposal was accepted by SEAQiM and emphasised that all participants were ready to gain valuable knowledge from the facilitators.
The course was officially opened by Giri Astriadi, S.Pd., MM. (Head of SMP Development Division), who expressed appreciation to SEAQiM for bringing the program to Tanah Laut. He encouraged participants to view ICT as a teaching aid and a bridge to creativity, innovation, and meaningful, engaging, and contextual learning experiences.
Representing SEAQiM, Caecilia Cahyaningsih Kristilestari, S.E., conveyed her deepest appreciation to MGMP, highlighting its strategic role as a platform for teachers to share experiences, discuss challenges, and collaborate in finding solutions to classroom issues. She also thanked the Tanah Laut Education and Culture Office for its full support, noting that the synergy between the Tanah Laut Education and Culture Office, MGMP, and SEAQiM is crucial for improving the region’s teacher competence and learning quality.
Fifty-seven junior high school mathematics teachers from Tanah Laut Regency participated in the four-day course. To ensure effective learning, participants were divided into two classes. The facilitators were Bungkus Dias Prasetyo, M.Sc. and Gusnandar Yoga Utama, M.Sc., from SEAQiM, Fina Hanifa Hidayati, M.Pd., from UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, and Wakhid Fitri Albar, M.Sc., from Universitas Negeri Semarang.
The course focused on equipping teachers with the skills to meaningfully integrate ICT into mathematics education to support students in developing 21st-century skills. The modules included Using GeoGebra Lessons to Enhance Formative Assessment, Developing GeoGebra Applets for Mathematics Learning, and Refining GeoGebra Applets for Mathematics Learning.
Bungkus Dias Prasetyo, M.Sc., Academic Coordinator, expressed hope that the knowledge shared during the course would benefit participants and meet their expectations.
In his closing remarks, Giri Astriadi, S.Pd., MM., Head of the Division for Teacher Competence Development, shared his aspiration to formalise a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SEAQiM for future collaborations.
