SEAQiM, in collaboration with MGMP Tanah Laut and supported by Education Office Tanah Laut District, organized In-country Course on STEM Education for Mathematics Learning for Junior High School Mathematics Teachers. The sharing budget event was conducted at UPTD Hall of SMPN 2 Pelaihari Tanah Laut, Pelaihari, Kalimantan Selatan, on 26 – 30 September 2022.
Before the course, the MGMP Tanah Laut, supported by Education Office Tanah Laut District, had invited 60 junior high school mathematics teachers to join the programme. The teachers in Tanah Laut are actually enthusiastic about the course. So the course is conducted in 2 classes. The Head of Education Office, Tanah Laut District, is opening the course.
The Head of the Tanah Laut Education and Culture Office, Drs H. Zainal Abidin, said that participants could participate properly and seriously in Stem training. He conveyed this when he officially opened the In-Country Course on STEM for Mathematics Learning for Junior High School Mathematics Teachers in the UPTD Hall of SMPN 2 Pelaihari Monday (26/09/22).
“Congratulations on the training because this STEM training is the first time in Tanah Laut in particular. Hopefully, in the future, with the STEM approach technique in Mathematics, it can make students able to think critically, creatively, collaboratively and communicatively through learning mathematics,” said Zainal
Head of the Mathematics Subject Teacher Consultation (MGMP) Tanah Laut Slamet Mulyono noted that not all MGMP communities can get the opportunity to receive STEM training from SEAQiM.
Facilitators from SEAQiM introduced those teachers to STEM activities for junior high school mathematics. Ms Ummy, as one of the facilitators, explained that after completing the course, mathematics teachers in Tanah Laut are expected to be able to apply mathematical concepts through STEM.
The target of the STEM training is the Junior High School Mathematics Teachers from Tanah Laut, totalling 60 people, and finally, 55 people participating from 26 to 30 September 2022.
