SEAQiM welcomes the Sanata Dharma Students to learn Ecoprint in Kampung STEM Joho

Yogyakarta: Since Minister of Education and Culture Republic of Indonesia, Mr Muhadjir Efendy inaugurated the establishment of Kampung STEM (STEM Village) on 16 November 2018, SEAQiM continued to carry out STEM activities guided by SEAQiM specialists well. As expected by the minister, the existence of this village can be used as an inspiring community for other regions so that the next generation of Indonesia can catch up in the field of science. Furthermore, it is challenging for the centre to keep innovating in providing fun STEM activities to the village people.

STEM Village is a SEAQiM-fostered village located in Joho, Sambisari, Condongcatur, Depok, Sleman, Yogyakarta. The members of this community start of various ages, such as primary and secondary school students and their mothers. SEAQiM expects to actively invite children and their parents to participate in STEM activities guided by SEAQiM specialists.

This year, SEAQiM feels honoured to receive collaboration from the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education of Sanata Dharma University. They hope to get new experiences by actively participating in Kampung STEM activities.

On 28 October 2022, SEAQiM received students from Sanata Dharma University who visited and tried an activity in Joho STEM Village (Joho STEM Village), Yogyakarta. They explored how to make Ecoprint batik using the Ponding method. Ecoprint is one of the flagship activities in Kampung STEM. This activity benefits the people of Kampung STEM, especially housewives; these positive impacts could provide additional knowledge and a source of income for the community.

“We plan to invite students to get to know Kampung STEM more closely by participating in our activities every Friday for five meetings. I hope that they can feel SEAQiM’s contribution directly to the community and share STEM knowledge with students/participants,” said Ummy Salmah, the coordinator of Kampung STEM.
