SEAQiM (Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Centre for Quality Improvement of Teachers and Education Personnel) has once again shown its commitment to supporting the implementation of the “Kampus Merdeka” program by conducting a virtual workshop for pre-service teachers from Universitas Muria Kudus (UMK).

The two-day workshop, held via Zoom on 22-23 February 2023, had the theme “Workshop on Utilizing Desmos for Mathematics Teaching and Learning”. Ms Russasmita Sri Padmi and Mr Bungkus Dias, SEAQiM training specialists, guided forty-nine (49) pre-service teachers from UMK to explore and learn more about Desmos, a technology used to optimize the mathematics teaching and learning process.
The workshop provided a valuable opportunity for the pre-service teachers to understand better the Desmos platform and its applications in mathematics education. The participants were introduced to various features of Desmos, including graphing, data visualization, and interactive simulations. They were given hands-on experience using the platform to create and share mathematical content.
According to Dr Sumaji, Head of the Mathematics Education Department at UMK, the workshop provided many benefits, particularly in digital learning. “From the workshop on digital learning, the majority of students were successful in writing their thesis,” he said.
Dr Sumardyono, Director of SEAQiM, expressed his hope that the workshop would serve as a foundation for future collaboration between SEAQiM and UMK, including community service and research initiatives to advance education in Indonesia.
The “Kampus Merdeka” program, launched in 2019, aims to provide more opportunities for students to participate in various activities outside of the classroom, including research, community service, and entrepreneurship. Through workshops like this, SEAQiM is helping to equip pre-service teachers with the skills and knowledge they need to support the program’s goals and improve the quality of education in Indonesia.
