SEAQiM Showcases Regional Impact During the Official Visit of SEAMEC President to Indonesia

Jakarta, 10 April 2025 – The SEAMEO Regional Centre for QITEP in Mathematics (SEAQiM) proudly took part in the official visit of His Excellency Mr. Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara, Secretary of the Department of Education of the Republic of the Philippines and President of the SEAMEO Council (SEAMEC), to Indonesia.

This visit is part of his official mandate as SEAMEC President to engage with SEAMEO member countries and observe firsthand the progress and contributions of SEAMEO Centres in the region. Held at the Laboratory of SEAMEO Regional Centre for Food and Nutrition (RECFON) in Jakarta, the event provided a valuable platform for all seven SEAMEO Centres in Indonesia to highlight their innovations and achievements, fostering stronger regional cooperation in education.

SEAQiM showcased a variety of flagship programs and innovations that support the enhancement of mathematics education in Southeast Asia. The SEAQiM exhibition booth featured concrete outcomes of the Centre’s initiatives aligned with SEAMEO’s Seven Priority Areas, including teacher professional development, curriculum improvement, and integration of digital technologies in mathematics teaching and learning.

The event began with warm welcomes from notable figures such as the Rector of Universitas Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU; SEAMES Director, Datuk Dr. Habibah Abdul Rahim; Secretary General of the Indonesian Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, Ms. Suharti; and , Secretary of the Department of Education of the Republic of the Philippines and President of the SEAMEO Council, H.E. Mr. Juan Edgardo “Sonny” A. In their remarks, all emphasized the importance of strengthening regional cooperation to build inclusive and future-ready education systems.

In addition to the exhibition, SEAQiM was honored to attend a luncheon meeting hosted by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, Republic of Indonesia, with H.E. Mr. Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara as the guest of honor. This meeting served as a strategic dialogue, exploring ongoing collaborations and new opportunities to enhance the impact of SEAMEO programs within Indonesia and across the region.

During the event, SEAQiM also had the opportunity to share its contributions in supporting mathematics education in the Philippines, further demonstrating its regional impact and relevance.

SEAQiM’s participation in this meaningful occasion reflects its strong commitment to advancing quality education throughout Southeast Asia through innovation, collaboration, and regional partnership.
