SEAQiM Join the SEAMEO Knowledge Management Forum

Los Baños, Laguna, Philippines – On 22–23 August 2023, The SEAQiM join the “2nd SEAMEO Knowledge Management (KM) Learning and Sharing Forum” at the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA) headquarters.

The KM Forum has more than 30 participants composed of Center directors, deputy directors, knowledge workers in communication, partnership, program, public relations, information technology, and administrative officers from 17 SEAMEO Centers.

The event was jointly organised by the SEAMEO Secretariat (SEAMES) and SEARCA, stemming from SEAMES’ initiative to organise the 1st KM Learning and Sharing Forum attended by KM staff and relevant officers/specialists from SEAMEO centres/units. The first forum aimed to create a shared understanding of KM with SEAMEO, exchange best practices, and identify initiatives for SEAMEO centres/units to develop and implement together to enhance capacity, visibility, and stronger working relationships and cooperation within the SEAMEO family.

The event was organised to Support the new SEAMEO Strategic Plan 2021-30 and post-COVID-19 pandemic challenges, Knowledge Management Units or related functions in SEAMEO centres/units such as public relations, partnerships, information technology, and information management systems in SEAMEO centres/units have played an essential role in transforming conventional communication strategies and information management practices to be more digitalised.

Dr. Glenn Gregorio, SEARCA director, welcomed all the participants, while SEAMES Deputy Director for Administration and Communication, Dr. Pintip Iamnirath opened and set the tone for the forum through a session on finetuning KM within the SEAMEO context. Meanwhile, Dr. Maria Celeste Cadiz, former head of SEARCA’s Knowledge Management Department, served as the event’s overall technical coordinator and facilitator.

Selected SEAMEO Centers presented their KM-related best practices, and the SEARCA management and staff also share ongoing KM and communication initiatives, such as its information systems, publications, public relations, knowledge platforms, and the SEARCA Hub for Agriculture and Rural Innovation for the Next Generation (SHARING).

In addition, participants were divided into groups to create clear action plans for SEAMEO-wide KM strategies and activities in three priority areas: information systems, communication with external stakeholders, and partnership development. The KM initiatives will be jointly implemented by SEAMEO Centres and coordinated by the SEAMEO Secretariat. The event was well organised by SEARCA, and the second day was closed by the deputy director program of the searca, Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Nur Azura Binti Adam.
