SEAMEO RECSAM visited Yogyakarta, Exchange Ideas and Strategies to Improve the Quality of Education and Services in Southeast Asia

Yogyakarta – SEAQiM is honoured to welcome the study visit from SEAMEO RECSAM, Malaysia. This study visit is one of the agenda of RECSAM’s Management Retreat 2022, conducted on 13 – 17 June 2022 and placed in Yogyakarta. 13 (thirteen) officers from Management and Academic Division have joined this benchmarking visit. The activity’s primary purpose is to benchmark, exchange ideas and share information regarding the operation, process, and facilities between two institutions under the SEAMEO.

Wednesday, 15 June 2022, was scheduled as benchmarking visit session and Workshop on Teaching Mathematics Concepts Using 3D Designs. In the opening remark, Dr Shah Jahan Assanarkutty, the Director of SEAMEO RECSAM, thanks SEAQiM for accepting SEAMEO RECSAM team and sharing the best knowledge in SEAQiM. Dr Sumardyono, the Director of SEAQiM, and Dr Wahyudi, the Director of SEAMEO SEAMOLEC, also represent Balai Besar Guru Penggerak D.I. Yogyakarta, warmly welcoming the visitation from SEAMEO RECSAM. The agenda continued with a benchmarking session, separated into sharing and discussion sessions and an institution tour. Dr Sumardyono led the discussion session, which was attended by all RECSAM’s officers, board of directors, and head of divisions of SEAQiM. The discussion ended with a very lively sharing of ideas for the centres improvement.

Meanwhile, at the same time, the workshop was conducted. Dr Loh Su Ling facilitated the workshop from SEAMEO RECSAM. A total of 16 (twenty) participants, consisting of 10 (ten) participants from SEAQiM (specialists and representatives of divisions), 4 (four) participants from Balai Besar Guru Penggerak DIY, 2 (two) mathematics teachers from SMP N 4 Pakem, 2 (two) mathematics teachers from SMA N 4 Depok, and 2 (two) mathematics teachers from SMA N 7 Yogyakarta. This session will provide fundamental insights on 3D designs, focusing on using one of the free-to-use 3D computer-aided designs (CAD), Thinkered by Autodesk in Mathematics Learning. Besides, this session will give the participants a sense of what it looks like in practice and mathematical concepts that can be explored in all school levels and grades.

In the end, the result of this activity is that both institutions are expected to significantly contribute to improving the quality of education and services, especially for mathematics education in Southeast Asia.
