Yogyakarta – Today, March 14, 2018, PPPPTK Matematika together with SEAMEO Regional Centre for QITEP in Mathematics (SEAQiM) celebrated the Pi Day. The celebration was attended by all PPPPTK Matematika and SEAQiM’s staff, and also participants of Joyful Learning Course and Bimtek from Universitas Swagati, Cirebon Jawa Barat. The celebration was dedicated to the mathematical constant “π” (Pi). Magnificently, Pi Day is also celebrated around the world by math lovers on March 14 (3/14 in the month/day format). Why 3/14? Because 3, 1, and 4 are the first three digits of “π”
The celebration took place at PPPPTK Matematika’s front yard. “Happy Pi Day everyone, today’s celebration is a proof that math can be joyful, therefore teachers and students will be interesting in learning math”, stated the Head of PPPPTK Matematika in her opening speech. She also acknowledged that today’s celebration has got some recognitions by stakeholders at Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture. Cutting “π” cake, releasing balloon with “π” sign, and taking picture in “π” formation were some highlights of the celebration. In the spirit of Pi Day, all the refreshments provided by the committee were arranged in “π” sign.
Pi is an irrational number. Nobody knows its exact value because no matter how many digits we calculate, the number never ends. By today’s celebration we wish students, teachers, and education personnel be never ending math learners like “π”.
HapPI day everyone.
