SEAQiM successfully conducted its final series of the webinar in 2020 as one of its commitments to mathematics education during the pandemic. Entitled “Mathematics for All: Mitigating the Impact of Covid-19 Pandemic”, a more than 300 audience from Indonesia and several countries in Southeast Asia joined the webinar virtually via Zoom and YouTube Live Streaming on Monday, 14 December 2020.
The event aimed to improve teachers and education personnel knowledge and ability to implement equitable and high-quality mathematics teaching and learning during the pandemic era. Therefore, SEAQiM was pleased to invite three keynote speakers to share their valuable knowledge in this webinar series. The Centre also had the honour to invite Dr Wahyudi from SEAMEO Secretariat to the opening ceremony. He mentioned that mathematics educators could learn from each other and adopting innovative approaches for teaching and learning to mitigate the impact of Covid-19 in education in Southeast Asia and beyond. Moreover, the webinar is expected to provide mathematics educators with learning strategies to enable their children to become mathematically proficient and leverage curriculum and resources that promote high-quality, equitable mathematics instruction.
The first keynote speaker, Dr Wan Noor Adzmin binti Mohd Sabri from SEAMEO RECSAM (Malaysia), talked about using Digital Thinking Board platform as a smart solution to solve mathematics word problems. On the next presentations, Dr Sri Wulandari Danubroto from PPPPTK Matematika (Indonesia) shared about programs released by PPPPTK Matematika, called “AjarMat” which was expected to help parents in assisting their children in learning mathematics. In the end, Dr Sumardyono from SEAQiM shared that there has been a significant increase of students with a deficient level of achievement due to massive dropout in crisis. The whole sessions were chaired by Mr Wahid Yunianto, Specialist Coordinator of SEAQiM.
