Yogyakarta – SEAQiM officially closed its forth course, Developing Lesson Study in Mathematics Education, on 1 August 2019. The closing ceremony was attended by SEAQiM’s Board of Director, representative of the Head of PPPPTK Matematika, the course committee, and 30 primary teachers from 8 SEAMEO Member Countries; Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia.
The two weeks course aims at improving primary school teachers’ skills in lesson study; an approach for action research in classroom that emphasizes the improvement of students’ mathematical thinking which involves three steps namely Plan-Do-See.
During the course, the participants had many opportunities to learn from the experts in lesson study, Prof. Masami Isoda from Tsukuba University and the Coordinator of Indonesia Lesson Study Association, Dr. Arif Hidayat. The Centre also invited Dr. Endah Retnowati and Dr. Ariyadi Wijaya from Yogyakarta State University as well a teacher trainer from PPPPTK Matematika, Ms. Titik Sutanti, and specialists from SEAQiM.
To get the real depiction on lesson study implementation in the classroom, the course participants conducted a real teaching activity at SDN Jaten, Yogyakarta. In group of five, their teaching performance was evaluated by the specialists of SEAQiM and the other groups. At the end of the activity, each group wrote a report containing the challenges faced and solution used during the teaching process.
