Despite the Awareness of COVID-19, SEAQiM First Course Run Well

Yogyakarta – SEAQiM successfully organized its first regular course in 2020 entitled Southeast Asia Realistic Mathematics Education (SEA RME). The event, which was scheduled for 6 to 19 March 2020, was held in PPPPTK Seni dan Budaya, Yogyakarta.

The course on SEA RME was participated by 26 junior high school mathematics teachers from Indonesia, including 1 participant from Lao PDR. SEAQiM targeted a total of 30 participants for this course, unfortunately, in response to the outbreak of Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19), some ministry of education from SEAMEO Member Countries had decided to withdraw their teachers from the course.

In the two-weeks duration, the participants did not only learn about RME from SEAQiM Specialists but also from Assoc. Prof. Maarten Dolk, an expert in the field of realistic mathematics education of Freudhental Institute, the Netherland.

Prior to the course closing, SEAQiM provided the participants with a physical examination to determine the general status of their health. The centre also gave the participants a chance to talk to the doctor about any ongoing pain or symptoms that they were experiencing. This due to the Centre’s considerable concern over the COVID-19.

Finally, Dr. Sumardyono on behalf of SEAQiM congratulated the participants on completing the course. He encouraged them to implement the knowledge they obtained and disseminate it to their fellow teachers. In addition to this, he kept reminding them to stay healthy.
