Exploring Differentiated Instruction in Mathematics Education for Senior High School Teachers to Support the Implementation of Independent Learning

On September 29, 2022, a workshop was held as the “Exploring Differentiated Instruction in Mathematics Education for Senior High School Teachers to Support the Implementation of Independent Learning.” dissemination by Mrs. Isti Retno Pramudyawati Wardhani. The workshop was attended by 29 teachers and aimed to introduce and delve deeper into the teaching approach of Differentiated Instruction (DI) within the context of mathematics education. The event was conducted face-to-face, and the participants attentively listened to the presenter’s insights.

This workshop holds significance against the backdrop of its brief background. The dissemination was crucial as it aimed to shed light on the advantages of undertaking training from the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO). Simultaneously, it sought to enhance comprehension regarding the concept of Differentiated Instruction. This concept revolves around an instructional approach that considers variations in learning styles, comprehension levels, and student needs. Particularly in the realm of mathematics, this approach has gained importance as an effective response to the challenges posed by the implementation of Independent Learning.

Centered around the chosen topic, the workshop had a specific focus on applying Differentiated Instruction to mathematics education at the Senior High School level. Most of the participants were mathematics teachers who gained an in-depth understanding of designing more inclusive and adaptive learning environments. Key concepts such as grouping based on skill levels, selecting appropriate learning materials according to student needs, and employing diverse assessment methods formed the core of the content delivered.

The attendees were actively engaged throughout the workshop. They attentively absorbed the insights presented by Mrs. Isti Retno Pramudyawati Wardhani, who served as the presenter for the event. The interaction between the participants and the presenter was evident, as evidenced by the productive question-and-answer sessions. Participants posed questions that illustrated their keen interest in applying the concept of Differentiated Instruction within their teaching environments.
