Ternate – Dr. Hasan Hamid, the Vice Rector of Khairun University (UNKHAIR)-Ternate, together with thirty (30) participants consisting of lecturers and students from the Mathematics Education Study Programme, are pleased to welcome two facilitators from SEAMEO Regional Centre for QITEP in Mathematics (SEAQiM). Dr. Farida Nurhasanah and Mr. Bungkus Dias Prasetyo from SEAQiM meet the UNKHAIR invitation to collaborate in organizing the Short Course on STEM-integrated ICT in Mathematics Education. The short course was conducted on 14-15 November 2022 live at FKIP UNKHAIR. The programme aims to support, strengthen, and expand academic collaboration and cooperation networks at national and international levels.
The participants learn about Outdoor Mathematics Activities and STEM in this two-day short course. In the first day course, Mr. Bungkus ultimately shared about exploring outdoor mathematics activities with a mathematics application. Participants try to explore the application in the FKIP UNKHAIR environment. The participants, both lecturers and students, are stoked about all the materials, especially in outdoor mathematics. Meanwhile, the second day was filled with STEM in mathematics education, consisting of STEM introduction, engineering design process, and STEM activities carried out by Dr. Farida Nurhasanah, the Deputy Director for Programme of SEAQiM. Participants are led to make the incredible hoop glider to implement aeronautical engineers by applying the sciences, technological, engineering, and mathematical principles.
“We get new enlightenment and insight in meaningful and joyful learning mathematics, so it can facilitate the students who want to learn critically mentally and solve contextual problems and outdoor activities”, that’s the participants’ impression expressed in the testimonial. The short course is one of the parts of the UNKHAIR proposed collaborative programme. Besides, we have General Lecture: Prospective Mathematics Teachers and Lecturers, which was successfully held on 25 October 2022 virtually. The topic is Mathematical Thinking by presenting Prof. Masami Isoda from University of Tsukuba, and Scientific Article Writing by Zainun Mustafa, Ph.D from SEAMEO RECSAM.
Dr. Hasan Hamid expressed his gratitude and appreciated the teamwork for this first collaboration with SEAQiM. Then he wishes through the activities that are also coupled with a cooperation agreement between the FKIP UNKHAIR and SEAQiM. He also hopes this collaboration brings significant progress to better education in Indonesia, especially in mathematics education. As well as the SEAQiM mandate to support the Kampus Merdeka programme of the Ministry of Education, Culture Research and Technology, Republic of Indonesia’s education development in Indonesia.
