What crosses your mind when you hear “mathematics”? Is it merely related to calculation, numbers, or horrifying feeling? Mathematics is not a strange or even scary object. Moreover, it is not only about calculation. In fact, mathematics is closely related to everyday life, for example patterns around us. According to Schoenfeld (1992), mathematics is the science of patterns. Mathematics is an activity that involves observation and focuses on regularity. At the basic level, patterns are in the form of similarity. Whereas at the higher level, patterns are in the form of abstraction that is expressed by symbols.
