SEAQiM Strengthens Regional Presence Through Active Participation in SEAMEO CPRN Summit and 53rd SEAMEO Council Conference, Brunei Darussalam

Brunei Darussalam, July 2025 — SEAMEO QITEP in Mathematics (SEAQiM) proudly participated in two prestigious regional events held in the Empire Hotel, Brunei Darussalam: the 53rd SEAMEO Council Conference (SEAMEC) and the SEAMEO Centres Policy Research Network (CPRN) Summit 2025. These events underscored SEAMEO’s commitment to educational collaboration in Southeast Asia and provided a platform for SEAQiM to amplify its presence and contributions across the Southeast Asian region.

The 53rd SEAMEO Council Conference (SEAMEC), held on 1-3 July 2025, the organisation’s highest policymaking body, brought together ministers of education from 11 SEAMEO Member Countries and leaders from various SEAMEO Centres to review accomplishments, forge new directions, and celebrate shared milestones.

The conference, graced by His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, featured a series of royal ceremonies, keynote addresses, the official launch of the Greening Education Plan, and bilateral engagements among ministers and delegates.

Ms. Puji Iryanti, M.Sc.Ed, Deputy Director for Administration, represented SEAQiM at the 53rd SEAMEC, participating in policy deliberations and institutional engagements that reaffirmed SEAQiM’s role in contributing to regional education transformation. Ms Puji’s participation also signified SEAQiM’s involvement in the wider SEAMEO policy ecosystem, bridging the centre’s operational and strategic dimensions with the organisation’s overarching goals.

The three-day 53rd SEAMEC also included a closed-door In Camera session, the 7th SEAMEO Strategic Dialogue of Education Ministers (SDEM), and a special session on regional initiatives such as SEA-PLM, SEA DREAM, OECD partnerships, and ASEAN-UK collaborations. The 4th Five-Year Development Plan (FYDP) of SEAQiM was discussed during the in-camera session held on 1 July 2025. Heads of Delegation attended the session from SEAMEO member countries, representatives from member states, and Associate Member countries. During the forum, the 4th FYDP SEAQiM for FY 2025/2026 – FY 2029/2030 was approved and is now ready for implementation. These sessions emphasised sustainable and green education initiatives, digital innovation, and inter-centre cooperation. Besides, the SEAMEO Service Award 2024/2025 presentation at the Gala Dinner. SEAQiM’s own Ms. Hani Puspita Sari was honoured with this distinguished award.

Following the 53rd SEAMEC, Dr. Sri Wulandari Danoebroto, Centre Director of SEAMEO QITEP in Mathematics, represented SEAQiM at the CPRN Summit 2025, held on 3-4 July 2025. The summit was hosted by SEAMEO VOCTECH and had the theme “Building Bridges to a Sustainable Future: Inclusive Collaboration and Innovation in Education, Science, and Culture.” The summit served as a platform for policy dialogue, research presentation, and cross-sectoral collaboration among SEAMEO Centres, ministries of education, development partners, and industry experts.

The summit featured keynote addresses, parallel research presentations, poster exhibitions, and policy discussions to promote data-driven policymaking across SEAMEO’s priority areas. In alignment with these objectives, SEAQiM showcased its recent initiatives on mathematics curriculum innovation, STEM integration, and teacher capacity building. Through its full engagement, SEAQiM contributed meaningfully to policy dialogue and showcased its leadership in mathematics education as a catalyst for equitable, green, and digital futures.

These back-to-back conferences provided vital opportunities for SEAQiM to contribute to high-level policy discussions, share its institutional innovations, and spotlight the centre’s dedication to building a sustainable and digitally adaptive future in mathematics education across Southeast Asia and beyond.
