
Bangkok, Thailand (9–10 February 2026) — SEAMEO Regional Centre for QITEP in Mathematics (SEAQiM) actively participated in the 3rd SEAMEO Policy Research Capacity Building Workshop: Developing Policy Briefs Anchored on Research and Evidence, held at Mövenpick BDMS Wellness Resort, Bangkok.
Organised by the SEAMEO Secretariat with support from the ASEAN-UK Supporting the Advancement of Girls’ Education (SAGE) Programme, the workshop aimed to strengthen the capacity of SEAMEO Centres and Networks to translate research findings into concise, policy-oriented documents that can effectively support policy dialogue and decision-making.
Representing SEAQiM, Gusnandar Yoga Utama, Head of Division for Research and Development, Capacity Building, and Training, presented SEAQiM’s ongoing policy research initiatives, highlighting the Centre’s efforts to bridge research evidence with practical policy recommendations in mathematics education.
During the facilitated policy brief development sessions, SEAQiM shared its experience in developing research-based instruments and translating empirical findings into structured policy insights. The presentation emphasized the importance of moving beyond academic publications toward evidence-informed policy briefs that are accessible, strategic, and actionable for Ministries of Education.
The two-day workshop covered key themes, including: Framing policy research for decision-making, Interpreting research findings for policy relevance, Structuring effective policy briefs, Strengthening actionable policy recommendations, Strategic approaches to dissemination and policy engagement
Through breakout discussions and plenary deliberations, participants refined draft policy briefs and reflected on positioning research evidence to enhance policy uptake within national and regional contexts.
SEAQiM’s participation reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the link between research, policy, and practice in mathematics education across Southeast Asia. By contributing to regional policy research initiatives, SEAQiM continues to support SEAMEO Member Countries in designing evidence-informed education reforms.
