The Workshop and Final Round of the Southeast Asia Mathematics Teaching and Learning Model (SEA-MTLM) Sam Ratulangi Awards 2025, held from 7 to 9 July 2025 in SEAQiM, Yogyakarta, marked a pivotal stage of the competition. This intensive three-day event brought together the top nine finalists—outstanding mathematics teachers from across Southeast Asia—who had successfully passed a rigorous screening and judging process. Only nine were selected from an initial pool of 90 submitted lesson plans based on innovation, classroom impact, and alignment with the competition theme: “Strengthening Numeracy through Joyful and Meaningful Mathematics Learning.”
The workshop functioned as both a presentation platform and a collaborative professional forum. Each finalist showcased their revised, classroom-tested lesson plans before an audience of educators and an expert panel of judges. The panel consisted of Prof. Dr. Ariyadi Wijaya from Yogyakarta State University, Indonesia; Assoc. Prof. Tien-Trung Nguyen from Vietnam National University, Vietnam, and Dr. Tan Liang Soon from the Academy of Singapore Teachers, Singapore. These respected judges evaluated each presentation based on clarity, innovation, effectiveness, and relevance to students’ numeracy development.
The nine finalists represented three educational levels and various SEAMEO member countries. For the primary school level, the finalists were Ms Đào Thị Hồng Quyên from the STEM Education Promotion Alliance, Vietnam; Mr Exsaris Januar from Sekolah Indonesia Luar Negeri Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia; and Ms Wilis Putri Hapsari from SD Negeri Bojong Baru, Indonesia. In the junior high school category, the finalists included Mr. Arie Wibowo from UPTD SMPN 5 Batu Ampar, Indonesia; Mr. Jayvee P. Orejola from Valenzuela City School of Mathematics and Science, Philippines; and Mr. Jhan Glend S. Castanares from Oquendo National High School, Philippines. Meanwhile, the senior high school finalists were Ms Euis Nurdiana from SMA Negeri 6 Jakarta, Indonesia; Mr Syakti Perdana Sriyansyah from BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi, Indonesia; and Ms Yuli Mulyana from SMA Negeri 1 Maos, Indonesia.
This workshop phase also prepared the finalists to serve as keynote presenters at the International Seminar on Mathematics Learning, held on 10–11 July 2025 and attended by over 150 participants from across the region. After the seminar, the awarding ceremony honoured the outstanding achievements of the top three finalists. The winner for the primary level was Ms. Wilis Putri Hapsari from SD Negeri Bojong Baru, Indonesia. The winner for the junior high school was Mr. Jayvee P. Orejola from Valenzuela City School of Mathematics and Science, Philippines. In the senior high school category, Mr Syakti Perdana Sriyansyah from BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi, Indonesia, took the top honour.
The workshop phase not only represented the final round of the competition but also reinforced SEAQiM’s dedication to regional collaboration, the sharing of best practices, and the promotion of excellence in mathematics education across Southeast Asia.
