From February 7 to February 9, 2023, an insightful workshop titled “Integrating ICT in Mathematics Education Using GeoGebra” unfolded its valuable lessons. Hosted by Mr. Carl Michael P. Bandong, the workshop drew the participation of 12 dedicated educators from Pangasinan National High School. The event was not only a testament to the power of technology but also a testament to the commitment of educators to enhancing their teaching methodologies.
The heart of the workshop focused on the utilization of GeoGebra, a dynamic and versatile mathematics software, as a tool to revolutionize mathematics education. Mr. Bandong effectively communicated how this digital tool could transcend traditional teaching methods, offering educators the means to visually represent complex mathematical concepts. The participants were captivated by his explanations, which underscored the significance of merging technology with mathematics education.
What set this workshop apart was its hands-on approach. After comprehensively presenting the ins and outs of GeoGebra, Mr. Bandong encouraged the educators to delve into practical exercises. The participants eagerly embraced the opportunity to apply the knowledge they had gained by experimenting with GeoGebra themselves. This interactive aspect of the workshop illuminated the potential of the software in a tangible way.
The workshop’s core aim was to promote the use of GeoGebra as a medium for interactive learning activities (ILA). Mr. Bandong’s adept guidance led the educators through the process of constructing and creating these activities. The significance of this endeavor lies in its potential to foster a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts among students. By creating engaging ILA, educators can tap into their students’ curiosity, enabling them to explore and comprehend mathematical ideas in a more intuitive manner.
The background of the workshop emphasized the importance of disseminating knowledge and skills related to GeoGebra. Such tools, when harnessed effectively, can transcend the conventional boundaries of teaching, facilitating an enriched learning experience for both educators and students. The integration of technology in mathematics education not only enhances comprehension but also empowers students to cultivate problem-solving skills and collaborative thinking.
In summary, the workshop “Integrating ICT in Mathematics Education Using GeoGebra” showcased the journey of Mr. Carl Michael P. Bandong following his participation in the Regular Course. The event illuminated the potential of technology in reshaping mathematics education, particularly through the use of GeoGebra. With its emphasis on interactive learning activities and practical application, the workshop left the participating educators empowered and equipped to enhance their teaching methodologies through the integration of ICT tools. This workshop demonstrated how the fusion of technology and mathematics education can create a transformative educational experience.
