SEAQiM Visits Belitung Regency Education Office to Foster Collaboration in 2026

Belitung, 28 October 2025 — The Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Centre for Quality Improvement of Teachers and Education Personnel in Mathematics (SEAQiM) paid an official visit to the Belitung Regency Education Office as part of its ongoing commitment to strengthening collaboration and expand educational outreach across Indonesia.

The SEAQiM delegation, led by Dr. Sri Wulandari Danoebroto, Director of SEAQiM, was accompanied by Ms. Puji Iryanti, Deputy Director for Administration, and Ms. Hani Puspita Sari from the Partnership Division. The team was warmly welcomed by Mr. Tomi Wardiansyah, Acting Head of the Belitung Regency Office for Education and Culture (Disdikbud), along with his staff.

The visit was motivated by data showing that, to date, there have been no participants from Belitung Islands participating in SEAQiM training courses. Recognizing this gap, SEAQiM initiated the visit to explore potential collaborations and ensure that educational opportunities reach teachers and educators in the region.

During the meeting, Dr. Sri Wulandari introduced SEAMEO and SEAQiM’s mandate to improve the quality of mathematics education in Southeast Asia. She elaborated on SEAQiM’s flagship programs, including the Regular Course, Kampung STEM, Sam Ratulangi Award, Pojok Numerasi, as well as various seminars and workshops aimed at enhancing teaching capacity and innovation.

Dr. Wulandari also proposed a potential in-country course scheme through a shared funding mechanism, emphasizing that such collaborations could tailor training to local needs and maximize impact.

In his remarks, Mr. Tomi Wardiansyah expressed appreciation for SEAQiM’s visit and attention to the Belitung region:

“We are very grateful for SEAQiM’s presence and recognition. The Centre’s flagship programs align closely with our vision to enhance the education quality particularly in numeracy, and to strengthen the implementation of deep learning in classrooms,” he stated.

The meeting concluded with a shared optimism for future partnerships. SEAQiM reaffirmed its commitment to supporting local governments and educators through inclusive and impactful capacity-building programs.

“We hope our presence can meet the needs of each region, ensuring our training reaches the right teachers, and that those teachers, in turn, can disseminate their learning to fellow educators,” Dr. Wulandari emphasized.

With this visit, SEAQiM takes another strategic step toward expanding its network and realizing its mission of empowering teachers to deliver quality mathematics education across Indonesia and Southeast Asia.
