SEAQiM Receives Courtesy Visit from ICCCM ITEA Malaysia to Explore Collaboration Opportunities

Yogyakarta, 17 July 2025 – The Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Centre for Quality Improvement of Teachers and Education Personnel in Mathematics (SEAQiM) welcomed a delegation from the International Cultural Communication Center Malaysia (ICCCM) under the the International Transnational Education Association (ITEA) Malaysia, in a formal courtesy visit held on Thursday, 17 July 2025, at the SEAQiM Meeting Room, Yogyakarta.

ITEA is dedicated to promoting and fostering collaboration among institutions and individuals involved in transnational education. ICCCM, the secretariat of the ITEA, plays a vital role in providing administrative support, coordination, and strategic guidance to ITEA’s activities and initiatives. As the secretariat, ICCCM serves as the central hub for managing and facilitating ITEA’s day-to-day operations.

The visit aimed to explore and initiate potential areas for collaboration between ICCCM/ITEA Malaysia and SEAQiM, particularly in mathematics education, research, training, and teacher professional development. During the session, Mr. Ivan Chabibah, the delegation from ITEA exchanged institutional profiles, discussed existing programs, and identified synergies that align with SEAQiM mandates to elevate the region’s education quality.

In her welcome remarks, Dr. Sri Wulandari Danoebroto warmly expressed appreciation for the visit, emphasising SEAQiM’s openness to forging meaningful international collaborations. “SEAQiM is always pleased to connect with institutions that share a mutual commitment to enhancing the quality of education across borders. We believe that this initial dialogue with ITEA/ICCCM Malaysia opens promising pathways for co-creating impactful initiatives, particularly in advancing mathematics teaching and learning in the Southeast Asian region,” she stated.

In between, possibilities for co-organising international conferences, academic exchange programs, and collaborative capacity-building activities were discussed. The delegation expressed high interest in SEAQiM’s flagship initiatives, such as the Sam Ratulangi Award and international seminars, acknowledging their potential relevance and adaptability within the ITEA context.

The visit concluded with both institutions expressing optimism for the potential collaboration and agreed to initiate further communication to formalise the partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the near future, reinforcing SEAQiM’s role as a collaborative hub for educational advancement in Southeast Asia.
