SEAQiM Conducts Training on ICT Integration in Mathematics Education in Ambon

Ambon, 11–13 June 2025 — SEAMEO Regional Centre for QITEP in Mathematics (SEAQiM), in collaboration with Maluku Belajar and with support from the Educational Quality Assurance Agency (BPMP) of Maluku Province, Teacher and Education Personnel Development Centre (BGTK) of Maluku Province, and the Provincial Education Office of Maluku, conducted the In-Country Course on Integrating ICT in Mathematics Education for Senior High School Mathematics Teachers.

Held over three days at BPMP Maluku, the program was officially opened by a representative from the Maluku Provincial Education Office. The opening was followed by a Public Education Forum (Sarasehan) coordinated by Maluku Belajar, featuring two keynote talks.

First keynote is Prof. Dr. T. G. Ratumanan, M.Pd. (Universitas Pattimura) delivered a presentation on “Challenges in Mathematics Teaching and Their Solutions”, highlighting common pedagogical obstacles in mathematics education and offering practical strategies to overcome them. Then followed by Dr. Sri Wulandari Danoebroto, Deputy Director for Programme of SEAQiM, presented “STEM+CT Innovation for Senior High School Mathematics Learning”, emphasizing the importance of integrating Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Computational Thinking in modern math classrooms.

More than 60 senior high school mathematics teachers from across Maluku Province, including Ambon City, Central Maluku, West Seram, and South Buru, took part in the training.

This course focused specifically on utilizing GeoGebra as an instructional tool in classroom mathematics learning. Participants explored how to effectively apply GeoGebra to support formative assessment, visualize abstract concepts, and enhance student engagement.

The sessions were facilitated by a team of experts, including Untung Trisna Suwaji, S.Pd., M.Si. (Widyaiswara from BBGTK DIY), Bungkus Dias Prasetyo, M.Sc., Gusnandar Yoga Utama, M.Sc., and Wisnuningtyas Wirani, M.Sc., all representing SEAQiM. Each participant developed their own GeoGebra-based learning material and action plan to bring back to their classrooms. Pre- and post-tests were also conducted to assess learning progress.

This activity reinforces SEAQiM’s commitment to advancing the quality of mathematics education in Southeast Asia through technology integration and teacher capacity building.
