Held at Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah in Brunei Darussalam, SEAMEO VOCTECH organized the 7th SEAMEO Centres Policy Research Network (CPRN) Summit 2024 with the theme: “Embracing Inclusivity in Education, Science, and Culture Towards a Future-Ready Southeast Asia.” This Summit gathered approximately 40 participants from SEAMEO Units, related Ministries, and other development agencies and partners. The event took place from April 23rd to 25th, 2024, onsite.
SEAQiM’s Director and Deputy Director for Programmes, Dr Sumardyono and Dr Sri Wulandari Danoebroto, participated in the meeting. The keynote speeches were delivered by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Margarita Pavlova from the Education University of Hong Kong, H. Mohammad Nazri bin Haji Mohammad Yusof from the Ministry of Transportation and Infocommunication in Brunei Darussalam, and Prof. Chang Yau Hoon from Universiti Brunei Darussalam.
The Summit commenced with an opening address by the Minister of Education of Brunei Darussalam, Yang Berhormat Datin Seri Setia Dr Hjh Romaizah binti Haji Md Salleh, who emphasized the importance of inclusivity in education, science, and culture. She expressed hope that the conference would provide valuable insights into policy formulation. The Summit concluded with remarks from a representative of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Brunei Darussalam, who highlighted the impact of megatrends on the necessity for green education policies supported by inclusive science and an understanding of diversity and inclusivity in culture.
The agenda included presentations from keynote speakers, followed by presentations from summit participants representing SEAMEO centres, universities, and education observer institutions/practitioners in the Asian region. Additionally, the Summit discussed plans for ongoing policy research, categorized into three clusters: education, arts, and culture. To conclude the Summit, a cultural visit was organized to Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, Brunei Energy Hub, among other sites.
