Cirebon, The In-Country Course on Integrating ICT in Mathematics Education for Senior High School Mathematics Teachers was held from 4 – 8 March, 2024, to enhance mathematics education. Hosted at the Aula Masjid Kampus 2 of Universitas Muhammadiyah Cirebon, the event attracted 30 enthusiastic mathematics teachers from high schools in Cirebon, including those from senior high schools (SMA), vocational high schools (SMK), and Islamic senior high schools (MA).
This initiative was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Centre for Quality Improvement of Teachers and Education Personnel in Mathematics (SEAMEO QITEP in Mathematics) and the Faculty of Teachers Training and Education at Universitas Muhammadiyah Cirebon.
The event, facilitated by experts from SEAQiM, provided a dynamic platform for educators to delve into integrating Information and Communication Technology (ICT) tools in teaching mathematics.
Muhammad Nana Trisolvena, MT, Vice Rector 1 of Universitas Muhammadiyah Cirebon, inaugurated the event, expressing gratitude for the collaboration between SEAQiM and the university. Despite the absence of the university’s rector due to prior commitments, Vice Rector Trisolvena conveyed hopes for the continuous implementation of such initiatives to enrich educators’ knowledge and teaching practices.
Throughout the course, participants were guided by esteemed experts from SEAQiM, including Mr Gusnandar Yoga Utama, Mr Bungkus Dias, Ms Uki Rahmawati, and also Dr Sri Wulandari SEAQiM Deputy Program. The curriculum covered diverse topics, including Building Digital Activities with Applications using Desmos, Building Manipulative-Interactive Media with Applications using Geogebra, and an introduction to Computational Thinking and Robot Programming. These sessions aimed to equip teachers with practical skills and innovative approaches to enhance mathematics instruction.
Participants engaged wholeheartedly in the sessions, demonstrating a keen interest in integrating ICT tools to create engaging and interactive learning environments for their students. The event provided valuable insights and knowledge and fostered camaraderie and collaboration among educators.
In conclusion, the In-Country Course on Integrating ICT in Mathematics Education for Senior High School Mathematics Teachers served as a pivotal platform for professional development and capacity building, empowering educators to embrace technology-driven pedagogies and elevate the region’s mathematics education quality.
