SEAQiM Participated in the 52nd SEAMEO Council Conference

Philippines – Dr Sumardyono, the Director of SEAQiM, along with the SEAMEO Service Award (SSA) awardee from SEAQiM, participated in the entire series of events 52nd SEAMEO Council Conference. This biennial event is hosted by the Department of Education, Philippines, in cooperation with the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) Secretariat. The event took a venue at EDSA Shangri-La Hotel, Philippines, and is scheduled from 8 to 10 February 2023. 

 

The 1st-day event, 8 February, was opened by the Philippines Vice President, who also served as the minister of education (secretary of education)—then followed by the opening remark by the President of the SEAMEO Council, Mr Chan Chun Sing (Singapore’s minister of education), and an video-recorded remark by the President of the Philippines, Ferdinand Marcos Jr. On the first day of the event, some staff from SEAMEO Centre honourably receive SEAMEO Service Award. Mr Tri Nugroho is the selected person from SEAQiM who deserves this award, with all his achievements and hard work supporting the SEAQiM vision and mission. 

 

The main agenda of the second day is the election or appointment of a new president of the SEAMEO Council. This 2023, Ms Sara Zimmerman Duterte, vice president and minister of education of the Philippines, will hold the post as President during this term. The following schedule adopts working papers from the SEAMEO Secretariat and SEAMEO Centres. SEAQiM contributes to the approved working papers by writing on developing teachers’ proficiency instruments related to TPACK.

 

One of the deliberation results of this event is the next SEAMEO Council Conference will be held in 2025 at Brunei Darussalam. This conference will discuss the Education Cooperation among the SEAMEO member countries to improve education in Southeast Asia.
