The five-day professional development program was held from 8\u201312 June 2026 at SMP Negeri 2 Balige, bringing together 31 junior high school mathematics teachers from across Toba Regency.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The training was designed to equip teachers with practical skills and pedagogical strategies to effectively integrate Information and Communication Technology (ICT), artificial intelligence (AI), digital learning media, and simple programming into mathematics classrooms. The initiative reflects SEAQiM\u2019s ongoing commitment to empowering educators with innovative teaching approaches that foster deeper student engagement and understanding in mathematics.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The opening ceremony was officiated by Henri Simarmata, S.Pd., M.Si., Head of the Teacher and Education Personnel Development Division (PGTK) of Disdikpora Toba Regency. In his remarks, he emphasized that the program represents a continuation of previous capacity-building efforts and serves as an important step toward cultivating a community of digitally competent mathematics educators.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He encouraged participants to maximize the opportunity to learn, collaborate, and share knowledge with fellow teachers. Furthermore, he expressed his hope that participants would become mentors within their respective professional communities and continue serving as positive role models for students while embracing educational innovation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As technology increasingly transforms teaching and learning processes, mathematics educators are expected not only to understand mathematical concepts but also to leverage digital tools effectively to facilitate learning. The course was developed in response to this growing need, particularly at the junior high school level where students transition from concrete arithmetic concepts to more abstract mathematical thinking such as algebra, geometry, statistics, and probability addressing the demands of 21st-century education.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The course featured distinguished facilitators with expertise in mathematics education and educational technology, Prof. Roberto Araya from the University of Chile, Mr. Arie Wibowo from UPTD SMP Negeri 5 Batu Ampar, and Mr. Eko Pramesti Sumarto from SMK Negeri 1 Tegalsari.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Throughout the program, participants engaged in interactive lectures, hands-on workshops, collaborative discussions, and practical project development activities. The facilitators guided teachers through various digital tools and instructional approaches that can be directly applied in mathematics classrooms.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">One of the program\u2019s major highlights was the development of digital learning media tailored to participants\u2019 own classroom contexts. Teachers were challenged to design interactive mathematics resources, customize existing digital applications, and create lesson plans that seamlessly incorporate technology into teaching and learning processes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Additionally, teachers explored how AI can assist in generating lesson plans, instructional materials, assessment rubrics, and Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) mathematics problems while maintaining critical evaluation of AI-generated content.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The successful implementation of the In-Country Course demonstrates the strong commitment of SEAQiM and the Education, Youth, and Sport Office of Toba Regency to advancing educational quality through continuous teacher professional development.
