This campaign seeks to promote the understanding and appreciation of mathematics in everyday life, fostering a more positive relationship between students, educators, and the subject.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The webinar aimed to demonstrate how mathematics transcends the classroom and integrates into various aspects of daily life, including hobbies and professional activities. This event brought together experts from different fields to showcase the practical applications of mathematics in disciplines such as numismatics, biodiversity, and nutrition.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The first keynote was delivered by Dr. Sumardyono, Director of SEAQiM, who discussed Mathematics in Numismatics. Numismatics, the study of coins and currency, is a hobby deeply intertwined with mathematics. Dr. Sumardyono explored how mathematical principles such as geometry, probability, and statistics are used to analyze the design, value, and historical significance of coins and paper money. By presenting real-world applications, he illustrated how even a niche hobby like numismatics relies on mathematical reasoning to uncover patterns and make meaningful observations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The second presentation, titled Schools of Biodiversity: The Fun-tastics Biomathematics Practices, was delivered by Slamet Widodo Sugiarto, S.Si., M.Sc., Manager of the Science and Innovation Department at SEAMEO BIOTROP. He shared insights into how mathematics is used in the study of biodiversity, explaining that mathematical models and equations are essential tools for predicting biological processes, analyzing ecosystems, and understanding the dynamics of biodiversity. His presentation offered practical examples of how mathematics helps scientists and biologists unravel the complexities of the natural world, inspiring educators to incorporate biomathematics into their teaching practices.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The final keynote, Integrating Nutrition and Health Messages through Mathematics, was presented by Evi Ermayani from SEAMEO RECFON. She explained the crucial role of mathematics in the field of nutrition, from calculating nutritional intake and dietary needs to creating effective health-related messages. By using real-world scenarios, Evi highlighted how nutritionists apply mathematical formulas to develop health plans, track dietary patterns, and ensure that individuals receive balanced nutrition.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After the keynote presentations, the session continued with an engaging panel discussion moderated by Nur Fitriana from BBGP DIY. The panel provided an opportunity for participants to dive deeper into the practical applications of mathematics in hobbies and professions. Educators, students, and researchers participated in thought-provoking discussions that highlighted how mathematics plays a pivotal role in various fields, sparking new ideas on how math can be taught in more meaningful ways.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The panelists also fielded questions from the audience, allowing for a dynamic exchange of ideas and insights. The discussions emphasized how educators could use these real-world examples to make mathematics more relatable and enjoyable for students, fostering a greater appreciation for the subject.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">SEAQiM&#8217;s SMILE Math Campaign\u2014which stands for Savvy, Maintain, Intimate, Love, Engage\u2014aims to create a supportive and inspiring environment for learning mathematics. By illustrating the relevance of mathematics beyond academic contexts, the webinar helped educators discover new ways to inspire students and integrate practical applications into their teaching.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">With a focus on making mathematics more engaging and reducing the fear associated with the subject, the SMILE Math Campaign continues to drive SEAQiM\u2019s mission of promoting innovative and inclusive education across Southeast Asia.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As part of SEAQiM\u2019s broader efforts to enhance mathematics education, the webinar on Mathematics in Hobby and Profession demonstrated the organization\u2019s commitment to empowering educators and students.
