This exceptional gathering was graced by the esteemed presence of Professor Minoru Itoh from the prestigious Tokyo University of Science, Japan, who brought with him a wealth of knowledge and expertise to enrich participants&#8217; minds.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The workshop, a manifestation of SEAQiM&#8217;s dedication to advancing mathematics education, was made possible through the support of the SEAMEO Secretariat under the &#8220;MEXT&#8217;s Dispatched Experts Programme to SEAMEO Centres for the fiscal year 2023-2024.&#8221; The realisation of this event marked the culmination of SEAQiM&#8217;s successful application to invite a distinguished Japanese expert, Professor Minoru Itoh, as a resource person. The workshop unfolded from the 5th to the 7th of February 2024 at SEAQiM&#8217;s headquarters in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the opening ceremony,\u00a0 Dr. Sumardyono, the Director of SEAQiM, highlighted the workshop&#8217;s objectives, focusing on bridging the gap between theoretical learning and real-world application of mathematics. He stressed the importance of mathematical modelling and problem-solving skills, positioning them as essential tools for educators and professionals. The director officially declared the Workshop on Mathematical Modelling and Problem Solving open and extended best wishes to all participants.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">With a mission to empower educators and professionals with essential tools and strategies, the workshop aimed to deepen the understanding and application of mathematical concepts in real-world scenarios. The event drew participation from 16 dedicated individuals, including mathematics lecturers from UIN Sunan Kalijaga, Universitas PGRI Yogyakarta, Universitas Alma Ata, experts from BBGP-DIY, and training specialists from SEAQiM. This diverse group contributed to a dynamic learning environment, fostering the exchange of ideas and perspectives.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Over three enriching days, participants explored various themes, including uncovering mathematics in the real world, designing problems for school mathematics, developing and justifying mathematical models, and composing mathematics tasks for teaching. Professor Minoru Itoh&#8217;s guidance and insights served as a beacon, illuminating the path towards effective mathematical modelling and problem-solving strategies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">As the workshop continues, SEAQiM remains committed to advancing mathematics education, anticipating future initiatives to further elevate the discourse and practice of mathematical modelling and problem-solving in Southeast Asia.
