{"id":5692,"date":"2023-06-13T15:30:54","date_gmt":"2023-06-13T08:30:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.qitepinmath.org\/en\/?p=5692"},"modified":"2025-10-09T13:58:34","modified_gmt":"2025-10-09T06:58:34","slug":"seaqim-collaborates-with-unesco-in-translating-math-games-and-childrens-books-to-promote-education-and-language-diplomacy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.qitepinmath.org\/en\/our-news\/seaqim-collaborates-with-unesco-in-translating-math-games-and-childrens-books-to-promote-education-and-language-diplomacy\/","title":{"rendered":"SEAQiM Collaborates with UNESCO in Translating Math Games and Children&#8217;s Books to Promote Education and Language Diplomacy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Jakarta, 2 June 2023 &#8211;<\/strong> The Southeast Asian Regional Centre for Mathematics (SEAQiM) proudly participated in a translation workshop for Math Games and children&#8217;s books organized by UNESCO Jakarta, with the support of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of Republic of Indonesia, in cooperation with the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad). The workshop was held at Hotel Century Park Jakarta from 29 May to 2 June 2023 and aimed to foster international inter-organizational cooperation that promotes education and knowledge advancement while preserving culture.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The total of participants were 43 invited translators from various institution and the facilitators for this event were Gunawan Zakki, National Program Officer for Education, UNESCO Jakarta; Cecilie Eftedal, Head of Content Creation and Product Owner at the Global Digital Library (GDL); and Simen Elander, GDL Content Creation Team. The facilitators provided theories to produce high-quality translations using the GDL application and offered guidance during translation practice.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The event witnessed active participation from two delegates from SEAQiM, Ms. Ummy Salmah and Ms. Lely Dian Puspita, who translated 29 math games for children from various levels. Cecilia Isaksen and Simen Elander then tested the translated materials on elementary school students in Jakarta. The feedback received was overwhelmingly positive, with the children enjoying the math games and finding mathematics less intimidating.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In his opening remarks, Nadiem Makarim, the Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology of Republic of Indonesia, highlighted that the workshop is part of the Ministry&#8217;s efforts to enhance the function of the Indonesian language while strengthening language diplomacy between countries. The workshop is also seen as one of the Ministry&#8217;s initiatives to promote regional languages and literature, enhance literacy skills, and elevate the role of the Indonesian language as an international language.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The collaborative efforts of all stakeholders involved in the workshop serve as a testament to the power of partnerships and their positive impact on education, digital literacy, and fostering a love for learning among children.
