This approach was originally introduced under the name SMET\u00a0 (Science,\u00a0 mathematics,\u00a0 Engineering,\u00a0 Technology)\u00a0 by\u00a0 The National Science Foundation (NSF), before changed to STEM in 2001. However, STEM is not merely an abbreviation; it\u00a0 is\u00a0 a\u00a0 concept\u00a0 of\u00a0 an\u00a0 educational\u00a0 approach\u00a0 that\u00a0 is\u00a0 needed\u00a0 to answer the needs of the rapidly changing world (at least from the last decade of this century). Although there is no one\u00a0 absolute\u00a0 definition\u00a0 agreed\u00a0 by\u00a0 experts,\u00a0 it\u00a0 is\u00a0 generally\u00a0 agreed\u00a0\u00a0 that\u00a0\u00a0 STEM\u00a0\u00a0 is\u00a0\u00a0 an\u00a0\u00a0 integrative\u00a0\u00a0 or\u00a0\u00a0 interdisciplinary\u00a0\u00a0 approach\u00a0 to\u00a0 learning\u00a0 Science,\u00a0 Technology,\u00a0 Engineering\u00a0 and\u00a0\u00a0 Mathematics\u00a0\u00a0 using\u00a0\u00a0 real,\u00a0\u00a0 everyday\u00a0\u00a0 contexts.<\/p>\n
