{"id":4506,"date":"2022-07-05T15:07:27","date_gmt":"2022-07-05T08:07:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.qitepinmath.org\/en\/?p=4506"},"modified":"2025-10-09T13:46:35","modified_gmt":"2025-10-09T06:46:35","slug":"stem-is-an-innovative-approach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.qitepinmath.org\/en\/our-news\/stem-is-an-innovative-approach\/","title":{"rendered":"STEM is an innovative approach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Yogyakarta:<\/strong>\u00a0Nowadays, the popularity of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) as one innovative learning approach has increased in Indonesia. STEM-based learning is one of the right ways to prepare students for the challenges of the 21st century. Therefore, the teachers need to enhance the innovative ideas related to the application of STEM in Mathematics teaching and learning.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">To address the issues, SEAMEO Regional Centre for QITEP in Mathematics (SEAQiM) conducted the third Regular Course in 2022. It\u2019s namely Regular Course on STEM for Mathematics Learning for Junior High School Mathematics Teachers on 18 \u2013 31 May 2022 in hybrid mode. The participants from Indonesia joined the course face to face, and the participants from overseas joined the course virtually. One course aims to introduce various STEM activities that could be adapted to mathematics learning in the classroom.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Participated by 32 mathematics teachers from SEAMEO Member Countries and four internship university students from IAIN Pekalongan and Universitas Negeri Surabaya, the regular course opened by Dr Sumardyono, the Director of SEAQiM. He congratulated all the selected participants and hoped they could disseminate the knowledge about STEM after joining this course and be beneficial to their students. It also has been facilitated by the experts who consist of Dr Scott Bortholomew from Brigham Young University USA, Dr Kristof Fenyvesi University of Jyvaskyla Finland, Dr Kawin Chaumklang and Dr Wachira Srikoom from The Institute for the Promotion of Teaching Science and Technology (IPST) Thailand, Dr Ariyadi Wijaya from Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta and SEAQIM.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">During the regular course, the participants did not only get the material about STEM but also the hands-on activities that could be improved their experience in STEM learning. In collaboration with SMPN 4 Pakem, they also had the real teaching to implement the knowledge to the students in grades 7th and 8th.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">At the end of the course, the best participants went to Ms Resi Kristiani from Saint John\u2019s Catholic School, Indonesia as the first best offline participant, Ms Fitria Habsah from SMP Negeri 5 Karangploso, Indonesia as the second-best offline participant, and Mr Komaruddin as the third-best from Fitrah Islamic World Academy, Indonesia.
