Solo- SEAMEO Regional Centre for QITEP in Mathematics (SEAQiM) in collaboration with Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) Sebelas Maret University has successfully conducted the General Lecture on Mathematics Education with Topics: “Building a 21<\/span>st<\/span> Century Mathematical Brain and Inner Space Exploration: The Impact of Brain Research upon Mathematics Education” on April 13<\/span>th<\/span> 2017. Prof. Allan white as SEAQiM\u2019s consultant was invited by them to be a keynote speaker. <\/span><\/p>\n This one day lecture was attended by the university\u2019s lecturers and students. The class mainly discussed the impact of brain research upon mathematics education. Prof. Allan White modelled a teaching method that was entertaining to the participants. He used an interesting video to attract the participants\u2019 attention to the topic. He emphasized that IQ (<\/span>Intelligence quotient<\/span><\/em>) is not fixed as the brain is plastic. It is hard work and struggle that determines success and intelligence. Thus, through the correct brain training our intelligence can increase. Brain researchers have shown that the brain can grow new neural pathways and build neurons even into adulthood. It is never too late to study or become smarter.<\/span><\/p>\n He motivated the participants on how the mathematics teachers could make their students understand mathematics better and not only make them drill and practice to achieve the lesson target. He stressed the importance of helping students to see the relevance and make sense of their mathematics. Teachers are expected to be capable of teaching their students in a joyful and meaningful way so that their students begin to appreciate and love mathematics.<\/span><\/p>\n In the end of his sessions, Prof Allan shared information on how to use Geogebra in the classrooms and the participants had a chance to discuss it directly with him<\/span><\/p>\n SEAQiM highly valued the partnership and wishing this cooperation can provide professional and better service to mathematics community in Southeast Asia relating to prepare the students\u2019 to face 21st Century.<\/span><\/p>\n \n \n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" SEAQiM Goes to Solo<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":608,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_expiration-date-status":"","_expiration-date":0,"_expiration-date-type":"","_expiration-date-categories":[],"_expiration-date-options":[]},"categories":[7],"tags":[29,31,30],"yoast_head":"\n
