Unfortunately, some teachers do not have access to the teaching aids and, as a result, they resort to making the teaching aids themselves. <!--more-->In line with the commitment to enhance the quality improvement of mathematics teachers and education personnel in Southeast Asia, SEAMEO Regional Centre for QITEP in Mathematics (SEAQiM) believes that providing teachers with a course that emphasizes the knowledge on creating teaching aids is very crucial.<\/p>\n<p>Tuesday, 9 May 2017, a total of 30 junior high school mathematics teachers had just completed their participation in the Course on Teacher-made Teaching Aids (TMTA) which was hosted by SEAQiM. They are the representatives of junior high school mathematics teachers from 6 SEAMEO Member Countries (Cambodia, Lao PDR, Thailand, Malaysia, and Indonesia.)<\/p>\n<p>SEAQiM\u2019s Director, Dr. Wahyudi, officially opened the course on 26 April 2017, at the Centre\u2019s Conference Room. In his remark, Dr. Wahyudi congratulated all participants who are passed the selection process and attending the course. Within a two-week period, they facilitated the participants to enhance their competences in developing and creating mathematics teaching aids using simple and available materials.<\/p>\n<p>During the course, the participants had the opportunity to practice knowledge they have gained by conducting real teaching at SMP MBS Prambanan-Yogyakarta. On the same day, the committee provided them with refreshment activity by touring at two of the most famous temples in Indonesia namely Prambanan Temple and Ratu Boko Temple.<\/p>\n<p>Before the closing ceremony, in order to demonstrate togetherness and as a sharing media for cultural background, the participants performed many traditional performances from their origins. We would rather lead them to develop their own full potential\u201d, Dr. Wahyudi stated in his closing remark. He added a message for all participants to keep in touch with SEAQiM.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the course, the committee announced three best academic participants. PANTOR stands from\u00a0<em>Papan Kalkulator<\/em>\u00a0(or Board of Calculator). This hand-made calculator is originally created by Mr. Bavo Manon Nugroho, and he is used it to teach his students in his class on addition and subtraction. Right after the courses ended, the participants also showed cheerful atmosphere to exchange souvenirs.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, the participants engaged in all course activities very well.
