Muhadjir Effendy, launched the \u201cKampung STEM\u201d on Friday, November 16, at Balai Pedukuhan Joho, Yogyakarta, Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The project was initiated by SEAQiM in collaboration with the Centre for Development and Empowerment of Mathematics Teachers and Education Personnel (CDEMTEP). It is a part of their commitment to contribute to the local communities of Joho Village who are living in the neighbourhood of SEAQiM and CDEMTEP. Both institutions believe that Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, shortened to STEM, is one of the cornerstones for success in global competition. Therefore, it needs to be introduced not only to students through formal education in schools but also other elements of society, such as parents.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1265 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.qitepinmath.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/stembanner-300x188.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"188\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.qitepinmath.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/stembanner-300x188.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.qitepinmath.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/stembanner.jpg 413w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">During the launch event at Balai Pedukuhan Joho, H.E. Muhadjir Effendy said, \u201cVery often, mathematics is taught not in a joyful way. Thus, some children are frightened to learn mathematics. That is why this project is a very good start because it introduces our children to daily STEM application through interesting approaches.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Generally, the scope of activities carried out in &#8220;Kampung STEM\u201d is divided into two. The first activity is mentoring school-age children to learn mathematics through simple STEM activities. The second activity is mentoring parents to conduct STEM development activities in household levels. One of the activities that attracted their enthusiasm was making\u00a0<em>batik<\/em>\u00a0patterns using leaves and some simple kitchen utensils such as a stove and a steamer.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWe want to facilitate students and parents to learn to think critically and creatively in facing the challenges of the 21<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a0Century while respecting the environment. That is the reason why most of materials used for STEM learning activities in Kampung STEM come from recycled materials,\u201d the Director of SEAQiM, Dr. Wahyudi, added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1263\" src=\"https:\/\/www.qitepinmath.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/stem3-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.qitepinmath.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/stem3-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.qitepinmath.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/stem3-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.qitepinmath.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/stem3-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.qitepinmath.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/stem3-272x182.jpg 272w, https:\/\/www.qitepinmath.org\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/stem3.jpg 1642w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;Kampung STEM&#8221; activities are carried out once in a week and facilitated by the academic team of SEAQiM and CDEMTEP with the support of Joho Village apparatus.
